Civil Engineer

We are seeking an enthusiastic person with excellent interpersonal skills to join our growing team as a full-time Civil Engineer at our Sydney CBD office.

Job Description

The Civil Engineer works in the civil and water engineering team at Warren Smith & Partners Pty Ltd. The team member will be able to work independently through substantial tasks under the overall supervision of the Director of civil and water engineering and senior staff.

Minimum requirements:

  • Civil Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years’ post graduate experience as an Engineer (preferably local experience).
  • Extensive experience in the use of design and modelling software, DRAINS and MUSIC.
  • Must be able to demonstrate good report writing.
  • Intermediate/advanced AutoCAD capability.
  • Good oral and written communication skills with use of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, word, excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Be Sydney based.

Responsibilities of the Civil Engineer:

  • Manage and take responsibility for delivering project documentation in accordance with project brief, relevant Australian Standards, and local authority requirements.
  • Regular reporting and liaison to the Director – Civil and Water Engineering and project managers, including attendance at internal team meetings to report on the progress of the design.
  • Design of civil and water works including stormwater drainage, roads, and utilities for all types of developments including transport, residential, commercial, and industrial.
  • Peer review of designs by other team members, interrogating design solutions to ensure full compliance with codes, standards, and project briefs.
  • Actively participate in the development and improvement of team operations and manage quality control of outputs.
  • Facilitate co-ordination meetings to resolve design issues between the various consultants and clients.
  • Write concise project communication and design reports.
  • Communicate via e-mail, ACONEX, and other web-based project management platforms.
  • Brief CAD staff on the design documentation and ensure that the drafted design is accurate.
  • Research appropriate proprietary solutions and ensure that manufacturer’s information that is supplied is suitable for the project.
  • Take instructions from the Director and other assigned senior staff.
  • Work within the project design budgets and advise the manager if there is there is a risk of not meeting the budget targets.
  • Attend site inspections, review contractors work and prepare site inspection reports as required.
  • Review contractors WAE drawings, RFIs and other requests during construction.
  • Utilise company platforms including Confluence, Trakstar, Xero and Synergy.
  • Mentor junior staff in a constructive way by providing feedback to develop skill sets.
  • Work within the project design budget/programme and advise the director if there is a risk of not meeting the budget targets.
  • Continue to further educate and attend training sessions as required.
  • Ensure compliance with the civil and water engineering drafting standards and company QA procedures.
  • Assist in drafting when project deadlines require.

We are seeking an enthusiastic person with excellent interpersonal skills to join our growing team as a full-time Civil Designer at our Sydney CBD office.

  • Intermediate/advanced use of 3D terrain modelling software (12D or AutoCAD Civil 3D).

  • Be Sydney based.

Responsibilities of the Civil Designer:

  • Manage and take responsibility for delivering project documentation in accordance with Client brief, relevant Australian Standards, and local authority requirements.

  • Peer review of designs by other team members, interrogating design solutions to ensure full compliance with codes, standards, and project briefs.
  • Actively participate in the development and improvement of design and CAD standards within the group.
  • Attendance of co-ordination meetings to resolve design issues between the various consultants and clients.
  • Write concise project communication and design reports.

Water Servicing Coordinator

We are seeking an enthusiastic person with excellent interpersonal skills to join our growing team as a full time Water Servicing Co-ordinator (WSC) at our CBD office.

Job Description:
The WSC works in the Civil and Water Engineering team at Warren Smith & Partners Pty Ltd. The team member will be able to work independently through substantial tasks under the overall supervision of the Director of Civil and Water Engineering and under the direct supervision of Civil Engineers and Designers.

Minimum requirements of the WSC:

  • TAFE Certificate II in Engineering or equivalent
  • Intermediate/advanced AutoCad capability and good understanding of layers, GIS
  • Understanding of 3D terrain modelling software
  • Good oral and written communication skills with use of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, word, excel, powerpoint etc)
  • Be Sydney based

Responsibilities of the WSC:

  • Design and drafting of Sydney Water infrastructure including water, sewer and stormwater assets.
  • Co-ordination and submission of design packages for Sydney Water approval through E-Developer.
  • Application of WSA codes in undertaking designs.
  • Site supervision, as required, of the installation of infrastructure.
  • Interrogate design solutions to ensure full compliance with codes, standards and project briefs.
  • Attendance of co-ordination meetings and resolve design issues between the various consultants and clients.
  • Write concise project communication.
  • Communicate via e-mail, ACONEX and other web based project management platforms.
  • Participate in company communication portals including Confluence and Hipchat.
  • Review design documentation mark-ups and ensure that the drafted design is accurate.
  • Research appropriate proprietary solutions and ensure that manufacturer’s information that is supplied is suitable for the project.
  • Attend internal project meetings to report on the progress of the design.
  • Take instructions from the Director and other assigned Engineers/Designers.
  • Work within the project design timelines and advise the director if there is a risk of not meeting the targets.
  • Review contractors WAE drawings, RFIs and other requests during construction.
  • Attend training sessions as required.
