Darling Quarter

The Darling Quarter precinct saw the dramatic upgrade of the public space within Darling Harbour. The civil works included the deviation of the existing Sydney Water trunk stormwater main around the footprint of the new commercial precinct. This involved the installation of DN1800 pipes and a 1.5m wide by 1.5m deep box culvert. Challenges in the construction process included extremely tight corridors available for trenching due to close proximity of other works and existing services.

As part of the Optus Head Office development two (2) existing Sydney Water trunk mains, a DN1200 and a DN750, needed to be adjusted to cater for the new campus precinct. Warren Smith Consulting Engineers designed all civil works, including 1km of new roads, 2,000m³ of bio-retention basins and a 500m³ rainwater reuse tank. We also oversaw the installation of a new Sydney Water sewer through a nearby environmentally sensitive creek.
