The Water and Civil team provide services from master planning, through to detailed design and construction. Water Smart Solutions is a unique service that add value in the master planning, rezoning, development applications, and approvals stages of a project.
Water provides essential services to the city, and can also turn it into a better place to live through a combination of contemporary water management (recycled water), smart technology, and water sensitive urban design. However because these things are not conventional practice yet, schemes need to be worked through today’s regulatory environment and institutional arrangements. This is the unique service provided by Water Smart Communities provided by our stakeholder engagement, commercial and technical skills.
A water smart solution is an integrate local water sources at a community scale, nested within centralised water supply and wastewater networks in a way which has:
- commercial value for developers
- sustainability credentials that appeal to customers
- reduced use of the state’s scarce drinking water reserves
- Liveable local communities with irrigation and water in the landscape
This is done by working up a concept design with Sydney Water in the early stages of the development proposal, taking it through the approval stages, and creating the funding package that makes it possible.
Robert Keessen, who leads the Water Smart Solutions practice has thirty years’ experience in the industry, and joined the company from Sydney Water where he was the Project Director of the Water Smart Communities project. He has a wealth of experience planning integrated water management schemes. Importantly he has connections and credibility with government agency planners and policy makers, and the knowledge and ability to set up commercial financial agreements with Sydney Water.
